HORSPATH SACRIFICE EURO CLUB PLACE – posted 25 February 2014

Horspath Hammers have withdrawn from the European club championship to avoid UK teams having to endure the cost and inconvenience of running a preliminary round ahead of the finals in May.

Explaining the club’s decision, secretary Geoff Gamage told Spokesman

“Yes, we have withdrawn from the Euro Club.  Basically we agreed with Paul West when we entered that if there were more than ten British teams we would pull out to save having to hold some race-offs as we only have a scratch team this time.  Lukasz Nowacki has a year left on his Torun contract and of course the new ‘non’ secondary rules prevent us using the likes of Lewis and Chris Osborne as we have in the past” explained Gamage.

“Only Wednesfield, who have competed in all the ECC championships, have a better record than us for supporting the event (we only missed the first one), so it is a regrettable decision but one that makes sense, not just for us but for the other British teams as well.

“The club has completely restructured its officials and committee over the past month and is currently going through its Clubmark appraisal with the help of BC regional officer Josie Heffernan.  Hopefully we should get a positive result by April or May.  This is the club’s top priority this year. Work has started on a few clear ups at the track which has survived the bad weather really well.  Training started last Wednesday and will continue every Sunday to the season starts on 16th March.

“Basically this is the year to really restart the club following Robyn Carter's death in 2012 as last season we just rolled through it with too much re-structuring from what was left from Robyn's last year” said Geoff.

EURO CLUB RULES CLARIFIED – posted 21 December 2013

British Cycling has outlined the rules and regulations for the 2014 European Club championshipswhich take place in Exeter from 3rd to 5th May.

Entries for British teams close on 20th February 2014.The entry fee is £50 per team. If there are more entries than spaces available, a special pre-qualifying round, exclusively for British teams, may be needed although Exeter, as hosts, will be guaranteed an entry.

Teams will consist of five riders (four plus reserve), racing over the traditional 16 heat four-man team formula. Riders may only race for the clubs of their first registration. Riders who have a registration with clubs in both Britain and Poland during the 2014season will (under ISF rules) have to race for the club from the country of that riders nationality/citizenship.

If a Polish rider has a 2014 registration for a British club only, then that ridercan compete for the British club which holds the rider’s first registration.  If a British rider has a 2014 registration for a Polish club only, then that ridercan compete for the Polish club which holds his/her riders registration.
