EUROVETS DATES ANNOUNCED – posted 20 February 2014

EuroVets organisers have released details of the ten match series which runs throughout the season from April to October.  This year’s events break new ground.  For the first time the meetings will be held under the auspices of TLI Cycling instead of British Cycling.

Excited at the prospect, principal organiser Fred Rothwell said

“We would like to thank all the promoting clubs for their support for the series which, once again, will be linked to the Orchid Charity.  We’ll be raising funds for the charity through raffles and selling merchandise.  Last year we were able to send a cheque for around £600 to Orchid.  Hopefully we can surpass this amount in 2014” said Rothwell confidently.

“Entry fees are pegged at last season’s levels, £20 for the series or £5 per round.  These fees will include the necessary TLI registration fees. For riders intending to ride the series it will be necessary to register with TLI before the first round.  Information on this process will be passed on to riders in due course.

“We have spoken at length with TLI officials and found them to be very welcoming, in fact they are very satisfied to add cycle speedway to the cycling disciplines they already promote.

“In the past I have promoted cyclo-cross under TLI and found them very easy to deal with.  It’s an organisation run by volunteers, much the same as ourselves, and they provide all the necessary insurance cover for riders, officials, promoters etc.

“They also have their own website http://www.tlicycling.org.uk/ and will publish all the series results, promised Rothwell.

The 2014 Orchid EuroVets series dates are as follows.

April 26th at Horspath

May 10th at Coventry

May 31st at Poole

June 21st at Sheffield

July 12th at Underwood

August 16th at Glasgow

September 6th at Hull

NEW ‘BODY’ FOR EUROVETS – posted 10 February 2014

One of cycle speedway’s most successful competitions will be held under the auspices of a new ‘controlling body’ this year.

The popular ten match EuroVets series will be promoted under the mantle of TLI Cycling in 2014.

Principal organiser Fred Rothwell has unveiled the new arrangements following British Cycling’s recent decision to introduce a daily £1.50 rider levy.

Keen to maximise the amount of money generated for the Orchid male cancer charity, rider entry fees will remain at £5 per day or £20 for the ten match series.  Entry includes membership of the TLI which costs £10 per annum (£4 daily) including insurance.  As the event will not be staged under the British Cycling banner, it will not be necessary to charge the BC rider levy.

With nine of the ten venues already pencilled in, organisers hope to firm up the dates and venues within the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile the series has received a major boost with the news that several promoting clubs have voluntarily offered to provide trophies for their respective rounds which means more money will find its way into the charity’s fund.

The EuroVets is open to any rider over 40.  If you are interested in competing in one or more of this year’s series, please contact organiser Fred Rothwell on

TLI Cycling is a non profit making organisation providing grass-roots cycle racing for all ages and abilities.  The organisation has no external funding or sponsorship and is entirely volunteer-run by its members for the benefit of its members.
