Wednesfield Aces have once again been busy in the winter transfer market.

Assistant team manager Wayne Aris today confirmed all of the Aces’ ins and outs now that all the paper work has been signed and sent off TO British Cycling headquarters in Manchester.

Three Polish riders, Conrad Pietek, Dominik Rycharski, and Premek Binkowski will be joining the West Midlands outfit on Elite League licences.

Also returning for his second season will be Craig Marchant but this time Craig will be going back to Leicester on a first licence as the Monarchs will be competing in the National Friendly League.  Another rider coming to the Aces to gain Elite League Combination racing experience will be young Lee Kemp who will be a great addition to the second team squad according to Wayne Aris.

Coming from East Park on Elite licence will be brothers Lee and Matt Smith. With Matt Haddock announcing his retirement from the sport, Matt will be the ideal replacement.

Also coming in on Elite League licences will be Birmingham duo Mark Winwood and
Marcus Wadhams (pictured above) who will be two great riders to add to the squad. All of these added together with Paul Heard, Ben Mould, Chris Jewkes, Lee Aris, Ricki Johnson, Troy Allen, Mark Griffiths, and Scott Doherty, confirm that the Aces are once again in with a good chance of challenging for the Elite League title in 2014.

Astley & Tyldesley are delighted to announce two new signings in readiness for the new racing season.

23-years-old Joe Allen (pictured above) and 21-years-old Luke Jamson (pictured below) have both re-joined the club, after a spell at Bury for a few years, when the A&T club weren't competing in senior racing. Both lads started their cycle speedway careers with A&T - Joe in 2005 and
Luke in 2008.

They will both be good assets to the senior squad and will
undoubtedly strengthen the first team to make A&T a more competitive side

in this year's Northern League, under new team manager Paul Graham.

BUXTON JOINS IPSWICH – AT A PRICE! – posted 8 January 2014

Oli Buxton is the latest rider to take advantage of the newly introduced Elite League licence.  The promising Hethersett rider will be teaming up with Ipswich next season but is already causing the Suffolk club a big problem – literally.

Welcoming Buxton to the Ipswich camp, colleague Charlie Rumbold quipped that they will have to commission a bigger shirt to fit Buxton who is one of the tallest riders in the game.

ANOTHER BIG SIGNING IMMINENT – posted 3 January 2014

Just days after announcing their 2014 Elite League line-up, Horspath Hammers are expected to unveil another big signing before the transfer window closes on 31 January.

Busy team manager Mark Boaler toldf Spokesman “We are in discussion with another star rider and hope to make an announcement soon.”

BIRMINGHAM DUO CONFIRM DEPARTURE – posted 3 January 2014

Chris Timms and Scott Millward have confirmed that they will be riding for Horspath Hammers this season.

Monarchs’ captain Timms has ridden for the Oxford based side in the past and will have a familiar face in Millward in the home pits. Since Birmingham were demoted from the Elite League rumours have been circulating to where the second cities top riders would be going to in the top flight.

Chris Timms had a great season last year for Birmingham and the added responsibility of being captain also helped him develop as well as helping the younger and inexperienced riders as he helped them through the year. Timms also made the rostrum for the British championships at Coventry in the summer and also made the long jaunt to Australia to take them on in test meetings as well as also gaining experience riding abroad.

Scott Millward had a tough year for the Monarchs. With Birmingham using Sandwell for home meetings in the Elite League it was hoped that the former Lions rider would give Brum an edge at home. That ended though as Scott had terrible injuries and missed a large chunk of the year with hand injuries. no doubt Millward will be looking to forget 2013 and get back to the rider we all know in 2014 for the Hammers.

HORSPATH UNVEIL 2014 SQUAD – posted 2 January 2014

In a dramatic bid to wrestle the Elite League title from Poole, Oxford’s Horspath Hammers have unveiled their close season signings including Polish sensation Bartosz Grabowski, the reigning junior World champion.

Speaking exclusively to Spokesman-Online, Horspath’s general manager Geoff Gamage announced his squad which now includes three leading Polish riders as well as some big UK names.

“I can confirm the rumours and end speculation as the same time” said Gamage, a broad smile beaming across his face.

“World junior champion Bartosz Grabowlski and former European champion Marcin Paradzinski have transferred to Horspath from Poole and Ostrow's Marcin Kolata has also agreed to join Hammers.

“In addition, we have also signed Chris Timms and Lewis Osborne on Elite League licences together with Scott Millward, Danielle Riley and Oli Riley.  Danny Harper will also be joining us under licence” explained Gamage.

But it has not been one-way traffic.  Several Horspath regulars, including Mark Carmichael (pictured above left) and Shaun Rudman, will be leaving the club during the winter

“Jack Harrold and Mark Carmichael will both be racing full-time for their parent club, Newport, next season while Shaun Rudman has transferred to Newport on a full transfer.

“Horspath would like to thank all three for their services, especially Mark who has been a full time regular since 2008, never missing a match other than the injury in 2008.  He is very popular at the Village having been an integral part in all our successes since then. Horspath would like to congratulate Jack on a very good Aussie tour where he represented Team GB and Wales with distinction” said Gamage.

“Lukasz Nowacki, Mark Boaler, Mateusz Szymczak, Zac Payne, Jordan Richardson and George Horsley are all confirmed for 2014 while Lee and Wayne Clarke are expected to race regional league only.”

Gamage was also keen to quash rumours that Horspath may not be supporting regional league racing next season

“Horspath missed the regional league AGM meeting due to my illness over that weekend but we remain as part of South and South Wales despite rumours otherwise” said Gamage reassuringly.

PARR JOINS SHEFFIELD – posted 22 December 2013

Sheffield Stars have confirmed their first new signing for the 2014

Elite League season by securing the services of Northumbria’s Gavin Parr.

Speculation has been rife over the last couple of weeks that Parr would

be joining Sheffield on an Elite League licence.

A spokesman for the South Yorkshire club commented "Gavin is a rider we have been watching for some time.  We first spoke with him around six months ago to register our interest.  At times last season we lacked that mature influence in the team, so we see Gavin as just the man to fill that position."

With Sheffield having a large squad of quite young riders, Parr's

steadying influence, enthusiasm and point scoring ability is just what

the Stars require. Sheffield are well known for their large squads and

last season used a staggering 15 different riders in the first team. "We

will be dipping our toes into the transfer market again and have another

quality rider lined up.  At this moment in time we won't be naming any

more names until all the paperwork is in place."

Shaun Hudson commented, "I would like to go on record and offer my

thanks to Jamie Ball for his sterling service to Sheffield over the last

two years. I spoke with Jamie early on about our plans for the team and he decided a move to Newport was the best thing for him in 2014. Jamie is a great team man and team rider.  He has been a pleasure to work with and I am sure he will do great things at Newport."

It seems that the majority of the Stars’ squad is remaining unchanged

with Pawel Idszorek, Andy Angell, Radek Handke and Ryan Hoyland all

confirming they will again be representing Sheffield with other members

of the 2013 squad also due to return.

Two members of the 2013 team who are moving on are Matt and Lee

Smith.  Matt represented the Stars in every Elite League fixture in 2013

except one which he missed only through injury. Matt will be moving to

Wednesfield, to cut down on travelling and take advantage of the

excellent training facilities at Ashmore Park. Brother Lee who is

currently at University in Wales only had limited chances to race in the

Elite this last season, however it looks likely he will join Matt at

Wednesfield. Once again the Sheffield club would like to thank Matt and

Lee for their service, Shaun Hudson further commented "both lads have

been loyal servants to the Stars and we wish them well for the future."

As more pieces of the puzzle fall into place, further updates will be

Posted.  One thing that is for sure, with the crop of talented youngsters

coming up the ranks, Sheffield has a great pool of home grown talent

looking to fill those reserve positions, Kyle Holland, Zach Smurthwaite,

Rich Hudson, Matt Parrott and Niall Morton are all looking to make that

the step up. This surely bodes well for the future.

NEWPORT BOOST ELITE LEAGUE SQUAD - posted 22 December 2013

Newport cycle speedway club have announced an exciting tranche of new riders  ahead of the 2014 Elite League season.

Signing Elite registrations next year are Jamie Ball, Craig Nethercott, Nathan Groves and Will Cartwright.  Former riders Dale Clark, Adam Bennett and Sean Bennett have transferred to Newport together with Ieustin Lewis while Oli Sidwick transfers from Poole to Newport after being on a secondary to the Welsh club in 2013.

Newport expect to announce the signing of a top Elite League rider soon.

MARCHANT MOVE TO SET A TREND – posted 20 December 2013

The Cycle Speedway Commission’s initiative to encourage more top riders to support their local clubs is gaining momentum.

Following the introduction of the new Elite League riders’ licence and the ending of secondary registrations, star rider Craig Marchant has confirmed that he will be returning to Leicester of full licence next season but will continue to race for Wednesfield in the Elite League.

It will be a massive boost for the East Midlands club as they start to rebuild their men’s team after a couple of lean years which eventually saw them quit the Elite League.  Now they will be able to call on Marchant, not only for their Midland League matches but also for the club championship and knockout cup.

Meanwhile the grapevine is linking Welsh international Neil Power with Swindon.

SPECULATION MOUNTING – posted 19 December 2013

With the transfer window now officially put back to 31 January 2014, there is growing speculation about who’s going where next season as the rumour-mill gains momentum.

Main talking point centres on several Birmingham riders now that the Midland club has dropped out of Elite League racing.  Although yet to be formally confirmed by British Cycling, it is rumoured that Chris Timms will be joining Horspath while Jamie Ball, Nathan Groves and Mark Winwood are all being linked with Elite League newcomers Newport.

Two of cycle speedway’s hottest properties, Oli and Danielle Riley, are believed to have signed Elite League licences with Horspath while fellow East Anglian Richard Williamson is thought to be transferring to Hethersett.

Meanwhile one of the country’s top veterans, Newcastle’s Gavin Parr, is being linked with Sheffield.
