DOUBLE YOUR MONEY - posted 16 October 2010

So the British Grand Prix is dead.  Let's hope our Commission has safe-guarded the £1,000 GP Prize fund and are prepared to transfer it to the national individual championship.

The nationals prize fund has stood at £1,000 for well over a decade, so doubling the prize list is long overdue and would go some way to close the yawning gap with other cycling disciplines.

Only this week, Cycling Weekly reported a £1,000 prize fund for a hill-climb in Surrey while in another hill-dash the winner pockets £300 plus a £250 bonus for a record time.

Our blue riband event, badly needs a lift.  A £2,000 purse would be a good start and may attract a few more riders!

PHOTO MOMENT - posted 24 August 2010

Regular photographer at Harbourside, John Burge was on hand to snap the moment in heat 14 of the Poole v Hellingly match when Martin Hollebon 'overcooks' under pressure from Luke Armes and Matt Mildon. Martin was not overjoyed to get his marching orders from referee Mike Legge in the incident while young Matt had to
withdraw from the race after taking a  heavy tumble.

RED FACES AT POOLE - posted 18 August 2010

TENTED VILLAGE - posted 13 May 2010

Wow - what interest!  Since we ran our artilce about club gazebos, we have had several emails asking where clubs can obtain them.  We cannot recommend any particular manufacturer or supplier but we have trawled the internet and have found the following company that specialises in branded gazebos.  Among their clients are Wolverhampton Wheelers whose club tent appears on the company's website.  Click on

SPECTATOR INTENT - posted 8 May 2010

With reader Pete Horsley lamenting the lack of spectator cover at last weekend's Euro championships, coupled with the fact that at the time of writing it's pouring down with rain, just as scores of kids up and down the country are taking to the track in the British Youth and Junior League, is it time to take a leaf out of cyclo-cross's book?

In the past couple of seasons, club gazebos have become a popular addition at cyclo-cross events.  Not only do they provide welcome shelter from the elements, but are a focal point for club activities - a place to mingle and chat, to store equipment, or in the better weather, ideal for a barbeque.  Any of course the perfect place for a trackside reporter to keep their notebook dry!

Now there's a good idea!
