BLINSTON MEMORIAL DRAW - posted 12 October 2009

The draw for the Dave Blinston Memorial Trophy took place on Sunday 11th October during the Stockport 2006 v Astley & Tyldesley Northern League fixture.  The draw was conducted by Mr Graham Lush of Stockport 2006 assisted by Mr Mike Hack of Astley & Tyldesley and witnessed by Mr Jeff Radcliffe of Stockport 2006 and is as follows

CHANGES IN BLINSTON MEMORIAL - posted 5 October 2009

Stockport 2006 Cycle Speedway Club announces two changes to the line up for the Dave Blinston Memorial Trophy to be held on 24th October at Webb Lane.  British champion Lee Aris is unfortunately unable to make the meeting and Matt Beharrell, having announced his intention to quit the sport has also pulled out.  Our thanks go to Bury’s Chris Parish and Sheffield’s Jamie Brown for making the field back up to 16

The new line up, not in riding order is now Darius Pilas, Piotr Jamrosczyk, Garry Pearce, Dave Murphy, Terry Norman, Lewis Bates, Dylan Radcliffe, Ben Higham, Brian Eaton, Andy Angell, Chris Parish, Jamie Brown, Chris Jewkes, Richard Harrison, Erroll Thaw and Neil Howarth.


BLINNER DATE CONFIRMED - posted 24 September 2009

Stockport 2006 Cycle Speedway Club are proud to announce the staging of the 4th Annual Dave Blinston Memorial Trophy at the Webb Lane circuit on 24 October 2009 at 2pm.  The senior event will contain two of the three previous winners of the trophy, Lee Aris and Terry Norman along with 14 other top class racers.

The full field, not in riding order is - Darius Pilas, Piotr Jamrosczyk, Garry Pearce, Dave Murphy, Terry Norman, Lewis Bates, Dylan Radcliffe, Ben Higham, Brian Eaton, Andy Angell, Matt Beharrell, Lee Aris, Chris Jewkes, Richard Harrison, Erroll Thaw and Neil Howarth.

A draw will be made prior to the event and publicised on spokesman-online in the week preceding the 24th.

Sponsorship, in the form of a pair of brand new wheels to be presented to the meeting winner, has been kindly provided by Archie and Karl Wilkinson. Any individual or company wishing to add to this sponsorship would be most welcome.  Spectators are more than welcome to attend, programmes and refreshments will be available on the day. 

NEW REGIONAL OFFICER APPPOINTED - posted 18 January 2009

Earlier today Northern clubs elected a new member to represent them on the Cycle Speedway Commission.  Sheffield's Ian Brown has been appointed Northern regional officer after John Whiting tendered his resignation ahead of the meeting.  Otherwise the Northern committee remains relatively unchanged.  The committee is Chairman - Tony Mann, Secretary and Treasurer - Alan Farrell, Regional Officer - Ian Brown, League Recorder - Pete Ward, Competitions and Referees - Andy Schofield, Equipment

Officer and Minutes Secretary - Stuart Howarth.  Club representatives are Bill Phillips (Astley & Tyldesley), Alan Hewittson (Edinburgh), Darren Kent (Heckmondwike), Dave Graham (Stockport 2006), Lewis Bates (Stoke).

Seven clubs will contest Division One - Astley & Tyldesley, Bury, Edinburgh, Heckmondwike, Hull, Stockport (2006) and Stoke while five clubs will contest the Combination - Astley & Tyldesley, Bury, Hull, Stockport (2006) and Stoke.  First team matches will start at 2pm and second team matches at 3.45pm.

Eight clubs will contest the Senior Knock-Out-Cup to be staged at Astley & Tyldesley on Sunday 17 May.  The draw is semi-final one - Heckmondwike, Edinburgh, Stoke, Sheffield and semi-final two - Astley & Tyldesley, Bury, Stockport (2006), Hull.  The top two teams from each semi-final will progress to the final.
