EURO CLUB 2012
POLISH TEAMS DOMINATE EURO CLUB posted 5 May 2012
Any hopes that a British team could win the Euro Club championship for the first time in many years were unceremoniously dashed as Polish clubs dominated the 2012 finals at Kalety.
In a closely fought affair, Leszno took the title on 42 points ahead of Czestochowa and Torun who both finished on 40 points. Sheffield, the only English team to make the final, finished fourth with 37 points.
The Yorkshire outfit made a disastrous start to the final managing just three points from their first three races from which they never recovered, trailing last throughout the match but in Radek Handke, Sheffield had the man-of-the-match. The Anglo-based Pole swept through the final unbeaten lowering the colours of superstars Marcin Szymanski and Mariej Ganczarek in the process.
British teams were guaranteed a place in the final when Sheffield, Birmingham and Horspath met in the second semi-final, so avoiding the Polish heavyweights. Wednesfield also reached the semi-final stages but finished well adrift of the three Polish teams.
